from 2008, we have spent the month exploring the nooks and crannies to the North, from the San Juan’s to the Broughton Islands. Our most memorable cruise was a 3 month tour to Alaska in 2015. Our Portland daughter and her husband flew to Juneau where we picked them up and sailed to Tracy Arm and anchored just inside the inlet. From the boat we watched a large Brown Bear and her two cubs feeding on berries. Mama would launch herself into a large bush breaking it to the ground so the cubs (as large as most black bears) could feed. A few miles in from our anchorage two glaciers flow into Tracy Arm constantly calving ice. There is a lot of ice in the water. The seals love it I’m told so they can get away from Orcas.
While we enjoy cruising, a former owner loved to race the boat. He participated in the 2002, 2003 and 2004 Swiftsure Races. This before the boat had radar installed. The Juan de Fuca Straits are notorious for fog and Traffic. I love our Radar.
Much as we love our boat and our trips from Bakeries to Bookstores my wife and I are thinking it might be easier if we sold the boat and chartered for a while. Fortunately we are in good health but also in our 80’s and not quite as vigorous as we once were. It might be time.
